I left on Friday for Minnesota without my computer or watch charger. I drove up with barely enough time to change and get to a shindig Jim had tickets for in connection to his role as professor at the University he teaches at. I wore a new dress and shoes, put on makeup and was glad I had had a good hair day (see photos from Friday). After the dinner event we drove to Minneapolis for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Jim loves that city and was eager to explore more of it with me. He has reason to go occasionally for work or army and has spent a few weekends there alone in the past.
I find he is often eager to share parts of his life that I miss out on for various reasons. In some ways we are getting to know each other all over again as 50 year olds instead of 20 year olds. There is a misgiving that once you know someone, that they never change. While there are certainly aspects of me that haven't changed, the reality is I am a very different woman now than I was 10 years ago. The woman I was at 43 certainly was quite different than at 33 or 23. On Saturday afternoon we went out for Mexican and I was sharing some stories of before the two of us had dated. At one point, he seemed startled that he hadn't heard this story before which surprised me.
We enjoyed brunch and then walked over 10 miles around a couple of small lakes Saturday afternoon (see Saturday photos). We saw a movie early in the evening but went to bed early and slept in on Sunday. This morning he took me out for breakfast in downtown Minneapolis which was loads of fun despite the crowds from a Viking game. We walked around the city and enjoyed perfect weather all weekend. It was all so relaxing and quite fun-- the perfect way to spend my birthday.
