Tonight was one of the first evenings this summer when all four of us were available to go out on a family fun night. We went to the "cheap theater" where all the movies that have been out for a while are playing-- $2.50 per ticket is CHEAP! It is difficult to find a movie we all can enjoy, but Prince Caspian fit the ticket and it was only PG! Even though there were 2 full blown battle scenes, there wasn't a drop of blood shed that I saw. There is some blood during a summons of the ice queen but Edmond saves the day-- I heard Jessi say, "I love Edward!" I knew she was thinking of Twilight (not coming out until December).
It's been quite a while since I read the Narnia series, but as I watched Prince Caspian I was reminded of how much I loved reading, not so much to enjoy but to try and understand what CS Lewis was communicating. Much of what he wanted to say to his audience is lost in this movie to those who don't know what to look for. The theme of faith and sight is significantly downplayed, as is the relationship with Aslan or trust in the divine. As I saw fragments of it, I am sure Jessi and Moni did not... it was just a family film.
