I told my Digital Imagery students I would make them t-shirts last December. Yes, 6 months ago. I thought I could pull it off and then over the holiday break I attempted 3 printing screens with a design that was just not printable. I decided to start from scratch and begin again. The problem was I never did.
I read an article about never touching something twice. Once you handle a piece of paper or a project- finish it. Of course this can't always work out, but it is one of the ways I try to get as much done in as short of a time as possible. Sometimes it backfires because situations never get handled since I know I won't have time for finishing them. All of my mail gets thrown into a basket for a one time handling of all mail. I would love to make this a once a year or even once a season ordeal, but I try my best to get to the mail once a month. I open stacks of envelopes, handling all of it at once to completion; IE- paying the bills. Once in a while I miss something semi-important but usually it's all good and I get it all done in less than an hour (obviously regular payments are on a schedule that don't need my handling at all).
Projects are a little different. I can't finish big projects in one day and my scrapbooks won't ever be done because I keep on taking pictures. Still even these, I try to handle in bigger chunks of time rather than drawing it out. I only work on scrapbooks, like most of my big projects, while on vacation now-- about twice a year. So this little t-shirt project got away from me. Once my Digital Imagery class was over, it didn't seem to matter when I got to it, since I had missed my deadline. 6 days late, 6 weeks late, 6 months late... it's all late and does it really matter? Well, okay for bills, it's a big difference but for t-shirts for a class that has already been done!? We'll see how much flack I get.
