Early this morning my husband and I took Balt to Indian Lake. It was cool when we set out but as we walked the humidity became more and more apparent. Balt enjoyed swimming at the end of our time walking and we went home eager to get the air conditioning back on in the house. Madison is gearing up for another week of heat, kicked off with with a severe heat advisory for Monday AND Tuesday.
This afternoon Monika and I attended a college admissions workshop that was pretty instructive. My husband are still dealing with paying for our own college experiences, so to say we are not prepared for our children's experience is a bit of an understatement. I have always assumed that since we paid our own way, they would pay theirs. I realize now how unfair it is for them since back in the late 80's when I was in college, tuition was a tenth of what it today. I recall my first bill from Cal State Northridge-- $278 and yes, that was full time. I could work a part time job and pay for it all. Erika has done a great job so far paying her own way, but things will change once she starts the UW. Neither Jessi or Monika want to start at a 2 year, so both will need to work for merit based scholarships. Today's workshop helped us understand what they need to do to get there. It's a lot of work.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing. I made a nice dinner for us all. Melissa popped in for a quick visit to catch up and pick up her veggies. We watched The Three Musketeers (2011) on bluray (our computer is dead, but the bluray works!). July is half over and I have eaten too much, but swum everyday. I did not accomplish 3 things today but it's Sunday and it's hot.
