After a long day of dealing with the dog and a swim meet, I met up with Melissa for dinner and a movie. The conversation was great and the movie was good. I haven't really been eager to see movies lately. I left the theater tonight excited about the movie I'd seen and eager to see a few more (previews of The Hobbit and Hyde Park on Hudson). The science fiction aspects were the initial attraction to Cloud Gate, but when it was over, it was the depth of the movie that left Melissa and I talking about our purpose in life and how the movie spoke of it. The actors all play mulitple roles and there are purhaps six separate stories, seeming to connect either by actor, theme, charactor or story line. The future story was my favorite, but it ends up looping into what seemed to be most past but I think is actually the most future. The moral of the story maybe as rich as humanity itself. There are strings of good vs. evil woven into the fabric of the movie along with a fight for freedom. Evil is present in many different faces, almost all of them played by Hugh Grant. But Tom Hanks is not always the good guy. Jim Sturges was my favorite actor playing the most heroic characters. It was a nice way to end my Saturday. And now it's time to put my clock back and get a bit of extra sleep...
