Erika left this afternoon with her dad to settle into an apartment near Chicago for a new internship she starts tomorrow morning. While she mentioned wanting to have breakfast with us this weekend, she seemed too busy with her friends. I noticed that Jessi was quite concerned to make sure she spent her remaining time in Madison with her friends as well. At one point I didn't think we would pull off one family meal before everyone parted their separate ways.and felt a little frustrated that friends were so much more important. I had to admit when I was their age, I was the same way. So we made it to the Pancake House for brunch at noon today and enjoyed a great meal together. We will not gather again with all five of us until Thanksgiving and the girls don't really seem the least bit bothered about it, but they do seem concerned about not seeing their friends! Do I sound jealous?
My day was pretty relaxing. I am trying to stay as available as possible for Jessi, soaking up every last minute she's around. I did a bunch of laundry, organizing and folding. I sorted just enough socks for Erika to take with her. I pulled out a couch, swept and mopped underneath it. Everyday I try to get a little special cleaning project done. Once both Erika and Jessi are gone, I plan on cleaning and painting Jessi's bedroom and turning it back into Erika's, then organizing a space for Jessi in Monika's room, since Jessi will only have 6 weeks leave per year for the next 10 years, if that. I mentioned this project to my husband, explaining I had all summer to work on it when he predicted that Erika would be home every weekend all summer long. We made a little wager on it. I was sure he'd be wrong until I got a text from her this evening explaining that she realized she forgot a bag of clothes and doesn't have enough to wear this week, which means she'll be back next weekend for sure.
