This morning the USNA Women's Swim & Dive team facebook page posted this picture of the girls on their way to the Nike Cup prelims in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Of course I had to share it on my facebook page as well. While I am so excited for Jessi to be on her first big college swim 3 day tournament, I'm so sad I can't take off work and fly out there-- they had a high of 60 degrees and it's going to be 70 tomorrow. Jessi swam a personal best in her 50 during prelims, but didn't make finals. This will be the very first year of her life she trains all year as a swimmer. It will be interesting to see how she grows as an athlete. This weekend she will certainly be surrounded by a lot of really great swimmers.
The day for me felt off. My classroom continues to be too hot. I hear from my collegues, that it is warm for them as well. I've learn to dress in layers so that I can strip down to just a t-shirt in my room. I keep my door open in the afternoon. Today I had to take breaks to sit outside in the cold to cool off because the heat seemed to be giving me a terrible head ache as well as making me feel nauseated. I did not eat my lunch either. I stayed after school to work on screens in the photolab and felt a little better to be out of the heat. I went to get Balt and give him a bath. By the time I picked up Monika and got dinner, I was better but still felt sick. Eating helped, as well as being at home without the heat on. The high was only 43, but because of the rain and humidity, it still felt kind of muggy. Monika had a soccer game, so took the car and left me and Balt to enjoy a quiet evening. Because of my head ache, I couldn't do much. I watched a couple of episodes of Star Trek and tried to take a nap. I'm left not sure if I am unwell or just suffering from an overheated classroom. Grace mentioned the heat made her less patient with her students. Josh has given up wearing his vests and ties and was in a t-shirt as well today. The kids complain it's too hot in our rooms as well, so I know I'm not having hot flashes. I am hoping by mid February it will be comfortable but I've been warned we are in for a mild winter. I'm not sure I can take the heat at work for much longer. I may need to start wearing shorts again.
