The Ford Crier: 06 Sept 1996

As is typical for the first few weeks of September, it is hot! Though the temperature is still yelling Summer, the trees are beginning to whisper Fall. We are seeing pretty highlights of orange and red in the trees around here already. There was a big school picnic this week and Erika's class made homemade ice cream, actually it was more like SOFT serve.

Illness of the Week: Teething - Monika has a runny nose, a little crankiness and an incredible urge to chew on the soles of shoes!

Words of the Week: "I forgot something." When I answered Erika with "What? What did you forget?"  She started to weep, "I don't know, I forgot, but I remember the teacher saying not to forget it!"

The Ford Crier: 31 Aug 1996

This week at the Ford's: Jim and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. We went out ALONE for the first time since ... I can't even remember when, that is how long it has been! It was a wonderful evening. Erika finished her first week in first grade without actually throwing up (she was dry heaving on the first morning!). Jessika survived the week without Erika rather well. She is now "top dog " around here when Erika is at school and I think she likes it.

Illness of the Week: "Good Times" virus- I think I owe everyone an apology for passing on a bogus warning message! It seems the warning itself is a type of virus. I guess it goes to show how very gullible I really am. I suppose I can blame it on my brother for sending the message to me, or perhaps we both should blame our parents for teaching us to be so very trusting! Anyway, thanks to Dave Everett and Gary Wernsing for giving me the straight scoop.

The Ford Crier; 24 Aug 1996

This week at the Fords: The last week of Summer was spent a lot like every other week this Summer with the exception to a trip to the mall. I remember when going to the mall was a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Well, those days are over (for a while at least). I hardly have time to shop between running after Jessika, changing diapers, buying snacks, nursing and waiting for Erika. Still a few bargains were bought and a little fun was had! We also watched Baby Eli Buffat for the first time this week. Eli will be joining our happy family three days a week. At nine months old, he seems to fit right into the routine around here. As long as we keep his diaper on my baby girls will never know he is not one of "us"!

Illness of the Week: Tickle of the Throat ... I really don't know why but I have had a slight sore throat all week with an annoying cough. No other symptoms except being a little tired. I only have a million reasons to be tired, so how can I know if I am really sick or just "sick and tired."

Word (s) of the Week: "Juice, juice ..." I started carrying little juice boxes in the car for emergencies while ago. Now it seems to be a part of getting into the car. As soon as we get buckled in I hear the cries begin like baby birds in their nests crying for worms, only Monika is not whining for boxed juice (she wants boob - juice).

The Ford Crier: 16 Aug 1996

This week at the Fords: Can you believe it is back to school time already? This week we went shopping for school supplies and you should have seen the office supply section at Walmart. It was a mad house; utter chaos. It seems every elementary school kid in Madison and their mom decided to go the same time we did. Well, the fads have begun. Erika discovered "Lisa Frank" (she makes neon colored folders, notebooks, stickers, etc.) Next will be clothes and then I am really in for it. I haven't a clue how I am going to deal with two in Jr. High and one in High School. Tennis shoes alone will break me.

Illness of the Week: "Butterfly Belly" -- This a nervous stomach disorder that runs in my family. After going to the elementary school and seeing her new class, signing up for conference times and  getting the big supply list, Erika got a pretty bad case of it. Just wait until the first day of school. She'll feel like throwing up. I know, it happened to me every year.

Word (s) of the Week: "De Da dada!" Yes, the babbling has begun!! Our little Monika has started with little bits of " talking " sounds. She has a lot of people talking in the background to help her out.  Between the three of us girls jibber jabbering, Jim practicing presenting papers, and Rush Limbal from 11-2pm, I am sure Monika will be quite an eloquent talker.

The Ford Crier: 10 Aug 1996

This week at the Fords: It started on a hot and muggy Monday with little girls dancing wildly in the rain and screaming in delight after every sound of thunder. Where do they get that electricity inside of them from? And how can those angelic faces produce such loud demonic screeches? The only dancing I do is in the aerobic room, and it isn't pretty. We have been experiencing 115 degree
heat with the humidity factor added. Playing in water (a small yard pool on our balcony or squirting each other with the hose) has been a fun way to cool off. We also make trips to the lake, Toys R Us or even the grocery store to bask in the air conditioning.

Illness of the Week: A very mild case of sun burn on all four of us girls was caused from a day in the sun at a local beach. We are not quite Lobsters, more like Salmons, thanks to Copppertone.

Word (s) of the Week: "Can I go to someone's house?" is ritualistically uttered every morning and every afternoon as we drive into our parking space after an outing. I find it amazing that she can care less whose house it is, as long as she isn't in her home she is happy. After all, who can blame her? Our little apartment is so boring!

Ford Crier:07 Aug 1996

This week at the Fords: Erika finished up swimming lessons and we are now looking for something to do because  " it is so boring."  of Monika this week, she fussed like she has never fussed before! Perhaps teeth coming in are giving her some spunk?  Jessika had her bangs cut, so she is going to look like a dork for a couple of weeks (we'll avoid taking her picture for a while and she'll never know the abuse we did to her beautiful face!)

 

Illness of the Week: The diaper rash has been passed on with love to Monika a stress related head cold was awarded to Jim earlier this week. The head cold is gone but the stress remains (he is working an two conference papers).

 

Word (s) of the Week: " Go out? " --This favorite question is softly spoken with much anticipation by Jessika and when answered with a "not now", is followed with loud screams, stomping and fall to the floor (occasionally we are treated with a couple of head bangings too).

This week at the Fords: Erika finished up swimming lessons this week and we are looking for something to do because "it is so boring."  I got an ear full of Monika this week, she hass fussed like she has never fussed before! Perhaps teeth coming in are giving her some spunk? Jessika had her bangs cut, so she is going to look like a dork for a couple  of weeks (we'll avoid taking her picture for a
while and she'll never know the abuse we did to her beautiful face!)

Please, if your mail boxes are bursting and you have no interest in receiving news tidbits of nothing in particular, feel free to let me know you don't want to be on my list of recipients for the The Ford Crier! On the other hand if you know of someone who would be interested in my weekly message to the masses, I would be glad to add on anyone.

Let me begin by sharing that after receiving a few messages sent to "masses" (mostly from Mike Borst!), I decided to try it myself. After all the mundane is my genre and this seemed so fun even therapeutic (is it Mike?), so here I am. Of course you realize you are in for messages filled with baby bits and nursing news! I promise to keep it short on a usual basis.

This week at the Fords: Continued success for Erika in swim lessons and now she is begging for gymnastics lessons after seeing a few hours of Olympic coverage! I have lost one more pound on my Zone diet (read " Enter the Zone " by Barry Sears) bringing my total to 8 since starting this perfectly balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates AND FAT! three weeks ago. (Nursing has nothing to do with it either). Jim worked hard and Jessika cried more than usual. I don't think I heard Monika this week, but she is alive and well.

Illness of the Week: We have a combo deal this week of conjunctivitis (pink eye) and a yeast diaper rash awarded to Jessika!

Word of the Week: " Mine " --as slow going as Jessika has been with producing words we actually understand, it is about time she got this one down! How long will it take for her to say "yours?" I am betting on years.
